Abstract: Problems concerning the classification, investigation and evaluation of fills are dealt with in this paper. The properties, sources and age of fills, and the investigating means as well as field and laboratory tests are discussed. Matters needing attention while evaluating the fill foundation in view of data analysis and in situ investigation of old buildings are put foward, Analysis of several engineerig cases is also included.It is of valuablc reference to practical engineers.
