Abstract:
On the basis of the Specification of Foundation Design for the Ground of Buildings( GBJ 7-89 ),some generally concerned topics about the determination of bearing capacity of the ground, such as the concept of bearing capacity of the ground, the determinating methods, the comparison between the old and new Specifications about the bearing capacity, and the modification coefficient of regression are studied herein.

Abstract:
On the basis of wide investigations and practical experiences for many years, the free expansive rate, δef, being more than or equal to 40% and used as an universal index of initial judgement is considered not suitable enough for various expansive soil areas, and the indexes for intensively determinating including their applicable scope are put forward. The values of ground deformtion due to swelling and shrinkage calculated according to the Technical Specification for Buildings in Expansive Soil Area( GBJ 112-87 )are found to be of difference from the measurements, and a suggestion for solving the problem is given herein. The functions of the cushion and the sand pocket foundation are also analysed.

Abstract:
The engineering geological investigation taken in the explosive area of underwater plug in the diversion tunnel of Mi Yun Reservoir is applied herein as an example to discuss the method for investigating in the explosive area of underwater plug. The emphasis is put upon the statistical analysis of joints in rock mass, the seepage situation analysis and stabilization evaluation for the surrounding rocks of the plug opening as well as the slop stabilization analysis in the plug opening.

Abstract:
Problems concerning the classification, investigation and evaluation of fills are dealt with in this paper. The properties, sources and age of fills, and the investigating means as well as field and laboratory tests are discussed. Matters needing attention while evaluating the fill foundation in view of data analysis and in situ investigation of old buildings are put foward, Analysis of several engineerig cases is also included. It is of valuablc reference to practical engineers.

Abstract:
On the basis of the theory of indirect adjustment of observations with constraint equations, the constraint is considered herein as the quasi-observation to which the infinite weight is given. The weight transformation is made and then merged into the overall indirect adjustments. The calculation methods and the statistical characteristics are also discussed.

Abstract:
In an engineering control network with multi-order layout, there is only one starting point to compute, namely the origin. When estimating the mean square errors of adjustments of coordinates of control points at each order, it is found that there is a dependency between the adjustments of coordinates of those control points with regard to the effects of initial data errors and all the mean square errors of adjustments of the coordinates are relative to the origin.

Abstract:
The main sources of errors in the position surveying by GPS and the influences on the surveying results are analysed in this paper.Matters needing attention in the network layout, position selecting and surveying designs during the city control network surveying by GPS are proposed. The methods of the baseline processing and the result precision analysing are also presented with the help of surveying results of GPS testing network of Beijing. The discussed methods are valuable for reference.

Abstract:
In this paper, setting out errors of several setting out methods used usually in engineering survey are analysed thoroughly ,The effect of control point errors on setting out point errors is studied emphatically.A conception of the effect coefficient of control point errors, f is introduced.According to the “neglect principle” and“proportion s principle”, the accuracy formula of construction framework considering the effect of control point errors are deduced.A computation example is included for reference in designing the construction framework.

Abstract:
In this article, the theories and calculation methods of three-dimensional response function ofthe aquifer system are studied in detail based on the theories of distribution and partial differential equation of parabolic type. Besides, the theories and calculation methods above are tested and verified with an example of the groundwater resources management of Jing Gezhuang area, Tangshan City, Hebei Province.
