Abstract:
The classical Culmann's way still has vitality and application worth to the critical height problem of slope on engineering geology and geotechnical engineering. The Culmann's formulas calculating critical height of ordinary, vertical and fissure slopes are induced, the application ways and conditions of the formulas are refered. The engineering application of the formulas are demonstrated with a landslide engineering,a cutting slope,a pit of retaining wall and a natural dangerous rock slope.

Numerical Analysis of Vertical Bearing Behavior of Belled Pier Under Different Soil Parameters
Gao Guangyun, Zhang Jing, Guo Xingyu
2007, 21(5): 230-233,238.
Abstract:
3D finite element models of belled pier in the homogeneous stratum with different elastic modulus of soils, angle of internal friction and cohesion force. The vertical bearing behaviors of belled pier are analyzed when the variations of the above soil parameters are presented. The analysis shows that the ultimate bearing capacity is mainly composed of the tip resistance of belled pier. The soil modulus and the angle of internal friction can affect the pier vertical bearing behaviors greatly. And the affection of the cohesion is not notable. Thus the stiff stratum with great amount of soil modulus and the angle of internal friction should be chosen as the pier bearing stratum.
Mechanical Analysis of Pressure-relief Oblique Retaining Wall
Zhou Keli, Zhou Guanghua
2007, 21(5): 234-238.
Abstract:
In 1960s, "pressure-relief oblique"retaining wall was used in a water-pumping irrigation works for the first time and it is still in safe operation. The retaining wall was generalized at the area for its rational structure, cost-effectiveness and safeness. However, there are still a lot of ambiguities in terms of the calculation of forces. Analytic calculation of various forces by Coulomb Theory and Rankine Theory is given.

Ding Guangwen, Ye Chunlin
2007, 21(5): 239-242.
Abstract:
Bag-grouting-pile is a new technique to improve softsoil,it has obvious advantage to improve the deep thick or forcedly interlayer softsoil. Based on the case of the softsoil improving in Yong-Tai-Wen railway engineering project, the mechanism, design and construction of this new technology are introduced.
Discussion on Methods of Buildings Site Classfication Evaluation
Ren Zhishan, Zhu Jintai, Li Mingen
2007, 21(5): 243-245,249.
Abstract:
Building site classfication evaluation is one of the main problems of the reconnaissance on the rock & the soil and the evaluation is the guide of the building sesmic design. The present methods of the evaluation are mainly come from the code. With these methods, some conflics are producing because the diffrences of the rock & the soil, the foundation depth or the foundation type.
Relationship Between the Plane Shape of Foundation Pit and Its Stability
Jiang Chenguang, He Yong, Zhu Yexin
2007, 21(5): 246-249.
Abstract:
The relationship between the plane shape of foundation pit and its stability is found in foundation pit observation practice. It furnishes observation data of stress and displacement of ellipse foundation pit, round foundation pit and rectangle foundation pit. The superiority of ellipse foundation pit and round foundation pit is pointed out, based on site observations. It reaches the conclusion that the ellipse or round foundation pit advantageous than the rectangle foundation pit. The load-bearing capacity and pit wall stability of ellipse or round or rectangle foundation pit are analyzed by three-dimensional finite difference integral method. The ways and process of foundation pit observation are given.

Dynamic Analysis of a Dynamic Machine Foundation
Kong Chuizhu, Xue Shangling, Yin Juli
2007, 21(5): 254-256.
Abstract:
If dynamic machine foundation is very large, the computation result of the sinplified method recommended in the Dynamic Machine Foundation Design Code(GB50040-96) maybe is error, and which is without avail for the engineering design. So three-dimensional numerical simulation analysis of such foundation is very necessary when we face it in the engineering design. Elasticity dynamic analysis method theory is brief introduced at the beginning of this article. Then dynalic analysis of a dynamic machine foundation has been done by the universal finite element program ANSYS8.0, including two aspects:modal analysis and harmonic response analysis. And then the natural frequency exact computation value of the dynamle frequency is also put out. Ac-cording to the above computation results, some important conclusions are drawn out, which are very useful for the design of correlative engineering.
Fluid-solid Coupling Analysis of Qingshui Railway Tunnel
Zhao Jianyu
2007, 21(5): 257-260,264.
Abstract:
Water sometimes is very important in the turmel stability analysis. So water factor should be considered if analysis the tunnel stability that is hydraulic coupled analysis. Through hydraulic coupled analysis for turmel, the result can be dose to the real. As now, finite difference nethod is often used for hydraulic coupled analysis; the most common software is FLAC. In the paper, the Qingshui railway tunnel stability is analyses by finite difference method, three cases is researched, the calculating result is very well to the real appearance.

2007, 21(5): 261-264.
Abstract:
The rigid pile composite foundation is simulated by an analytical expression of pile-soil system, which is based on shear displacement method. Then, the settlement of the raft by considering the interaction of the rigid pile composite foundation, the cushion and the raft are caculated. The results calculated by the program agree with the results obtained by ANSYS and on-the-spot survey, which shows this method is practical and applicable.
