Abstract:
There are several problems in stability calculation method of retaining wall which has been widely used. The problems are:estimating the stability doesn't comply with the principles of mechanics by separating the components of acting force into two acting forces; the anti-overturning stability coefficent is uncertain due to the defects in its definition and the differences of the foundation's hardness, and repetitive with the linear eccentricity of the basement's join-force;it would cause the insufficient foundation bearing capacity that the active earth pressure is be used or the passive earth pressure is ignored.the balance thrust method is put forward so as to improve the stability calculation method of retaining wall in view of the existing problems.

Abstract:
This paper Based on designed reinforced soil retaining wall model, combined with the analysis of previous studies, through the derivation of the formulas, the earth pressure, the pseudo-cohesion,the pseudo-friction angle and the destruction forms of the reinforced soil retaining wall were studied.According to the summary, the forms of the failure mode of reinforced earth retaining wall can be divided as friction failure and pull off failure.Derived results showed that:for the different failure forms, the changes of the friction and the cohesions were different, especially for the pull off failure, the changel of the likely cohesion followed by the vertical layer spacing of the reinforcement was obvious. And it was more easier to happen the pull off failure when the filling heights were the same.

Abstract:
The settlement of high filling subgrade is one of the major factors end to some highway diseases, such as vehicle bump approaching bridge, different deformation, crack and so on.Limited by short construction period and not preloading conditions, high attention must be paid to controlling filling progress and settlement characters of subgrade.Effective measurements are taken to control some engineering problems, resulting from settlement of high filling subgrade, during highway construction and operation.Taking one highway in Beijing for example, some features of settlement and deformation of the high filling subgrade are discussed due to different foundation nature, engineering geology, and construction method in this paper. The results will offer directly scientific basis for decision of design, construction and operation of the highway.
